Looking for an ASO.dev alternative?
ASO.dev shows up often in “best ASO tools for indies” lists for a reason: unlimited keyword tracking without the usual counters, strong App Store Connect automation, and a real ops surface (metadata, reviews, pricing, screenshots, localization). If your job isshipping and maintaining store listings across markets, it is a serious option.
Veldo is a different tool for a different daily question.
We built Veldo for indie iOS developers on a Mac who already (or soon will) run Apple Search Ads, and who wantorganic rank + their own ad spend + optional subscription revenue on one keyword row, then a plain-language next move: double down, bid, pause cannibalization, or cut a money pit.
This page is the honest comparison. No “we beat them at everything.” No guaranteed ranks or ROAS.
Who each product is for
ASO.dev: ASO research + store operations suite
ASO.dev positions itself as a full App Store Optimization platform with two modes: classic ASO (keywords, competitors, rankings without connecting store APIs) and automation (App Store Connect / Google Play API for metadata, localization, screenshots, reviews, pricing, releases).
Typical fit:
- You want unlimited keywords and competitors without cleaning lists to fit a plan
- You edit metadata, localizations, prices, screenshots, and reviews in one product
- You care about iOS and Google Play
- You want ads intelligence (competitor creatives, share of voice, auction-style insights) on higher tiers
- Browser workflow is fine; they also ship a native iOS app for App Store Connect
Veldo: Mac-native keyword acquisition decisions
Veldo is a native macOS app (macOS 14+) focused on the iOS App Store. It joins daily organic rank, Apple Ads spend/installs/popularity, and optional RevenueCat revenue per keyword, then labels each row with a verdict.
Typical fit:
- You live on a Mac and prefer a local app over another browser suite
- You run Apple Search Ads (or are about to) and hate reconciling three tabs
- You want “what should I do on this keyword?” not only “where do I rank?” and not only “what are competitors bidding on?”
- You want to pay for the tool, not a cut of ad spend: flat $8.99/mo or $99/yr
- Your acquisition data should stay on your Mac (credentials in Keychain; optional community rank pool you can disable)
If you need ASC bulk ops and Play in the same login, ASO.dev is built for that. If you need spend and revenue on the same line as rank, that is Veldo's job.

| Keyword verdicts | Research + ops tools; you decide | Double down / bid opportunity / cannibalizing / money pit |

Read the Ads row carefully. ASO.dev's Marketing plan advertises Apple Ads insights (ads by app/keyword, creatives, SOV, auction insights). That is valuable competitive intelligence. Veldo connects your Apple Ads account and puts your spend next to your rank and optional your attributed revenue so the next bid/pause decision is on one row. Different jobs.
The core difference: ops breadth vs decision join
ASO.dev answers: What should my listing and research workflow look like at scale, often without artificial keyword caps?
Veldo answers: For each keyword, after organic rank, ad spend, and subscription revenue share a 30-day window: should I bid, pause, or double down?
Most indie stacks fail in the gap between those questions. Rank lives in one tab. CPA lives in Apple Ads. MRR lives in RevenueCat or App Store Connect proceeds. Unjoined windows produce familiar mistakes:
- Scaling cheap CPAs that never subscribe
- Paying exact-match on terms where you already sit near the top organically
- Cutting “expensive” keywords that produce the only high-LTV users
We wrote the full playbook here:Which Apple Ads keywords actually make money?
Veldo's product is that playbook automated on a Mac. ASO.dev's product is a much wider ASO + Connect console. You can respect both without pretending they are clones.
Pricing posture (order-of-magnitude)
ASO.dev (per seat, public July 2026): Console ~$19/mo, Indie ~$39/mo (lower on yearly), Pro ~$89/mo, Marketing ~$199/mo, with yearly discounts on their pricing page. Indie is framed as the first full ASO loop (keywords, rankings, competitors) with limited history; Pro/Marketing unlock deeper history, export, CPP, and ads intelligence. Confirm live numbers on aso.dev/pricingbefore you buy; plans change.
Veldo: $8.99 monthly or $99 yearly. Unlimited apps and keywords on the license. No percentage of ad spend. Cancel anytime, 14-day money-back when shipping.
Rule of thumb
- Need Connect automation + multi-surface ASO research → budget for ASO.dev's seat that matches the features you will actually use.
- Need a cheap, local, Ads-aware keyword decision layer on Mac → Veldo's flat fee is the fit.
- Some teams will run both: ops in ASO.dev (or ASC), acquisition math in Veldo. That is a valid stack, not a failure of either product.
When to stay on ASO.dev
Stay (or start there) if most of these are true:
- Browser / multi-OS / team seats matter more than a single Mac app.
- You rely on metadata editing, bulk localization, screenshot pipelines, review replies, pricing tools, or Play in the same product.
- You want deep competitive ASO research (spy, explore, ASO Check, long competitor sets) as the daily driver.
- You care about ads intelligence / SOV-style views more than joining your own spend + RevenueCat into verdict labels.
- You are not running Apple Ads yet and your bottleneck is listing quality and keyword research, not bid allocation.
If ASO.dev already closes your loop, you do not need an “alternative” for its own sake.
When Veldo is the better fit
Choose Veldo (or add it) if most of these are true:
- You are on macOS and want a native tracker, menu bar, and local database.
- Apple Search Ads is on (or about to be), and reconciling rank vs CPA vs revenue is the weekly pain.
- You want explicit labels: double down, bid opportunity, cannibalizing, money pit. See the sample table on the home page.
- You prefer flat indie pricing and “pay for the tool, not your ad spend.”
- You want agents/scripts to read ranks and verdicts locally via MCP without mutating campaigns.
- Privacy posture: acquisition credentials and joined data stay on your machine (with an optional anonymous community rank pool you can turn off).
Veldo is not a full ASC replacement. Keep ASC (or ASO.dev Console/Indie/Pro) for shipping metadata.
Feature areas people confuse
Unlimited keywords
Both products claim unlimited keywords in their indie positioning. That alone is not a differentiator in 2026;Appfigures-style caps still matter in other tools, but ASO.dev and Veldo are both on the “don't meter your list to death” side. Compare what sits next to the keyword, not only how many you can add.
Apple Ads
| Need | Lean |
|---|---|
| Competitor ads / SOV / auction-style insights | ASO.dev Marketing (per their public plans) |
| Your spend + installs next to your rank + optional revenue → action | Veldo |
| Running campaigns day-to-day | Apple Search Ads UI (neither product replaces campaign manager fully) |
Mac-native
If your comparison set is “tools that feel like Mac apps,” also readVeldo vs Astro andASO tools for Mac. Astro is the other serious native rank tracker; Veldo's edge vs Astro is the spend/revenue join and monthly billing. ASO.dev is a broader multi-surface suite with a native iOS app, a different category center of gravity than Astro/Veldo.
MCP
ASO.dev's AI/MCP story skews toward store metadata and automation. Veldo's MCP is read-only local advisor data (ranks, spend, verdicts) for Claude Code and similar agents. Pick based on whether agents should edit listings or only reason over acquisition evidence.
What we will not claim
- That Veldo is a drop-in full ASO.dev replacement
- Guaranteed #1 ranks, ROAS, or “10x downloads”
- That competitor ads intelligence is useless (it is not)
- Exact feature parity on Google Play, bulk media, or review AI
Honest tools earn waitlist emails. Hype burns them.

FAQ
Is Veldo a full ASO.dev replacement?
No. ASO.dev covers a wide ASO + App Store Connect/Play operations surface. Veldo focuses on Mac-native rank tracking joined with your Apple Ads spend and optional RevenueCat revenue, plus verdicts. Many indies will keep a research/ops tool and use Veldo for acquisition decisions.
Does Veldo include competitor Apple Ads intelligence?
Veldo connects your Apple Ads data for spend and installs on your keywords. It is not positioned as a share-of-voice / auction competitor-ads intelligence suite. If that is the primary job, evaluate ASO.dev's Marketing tier (and Apple's own reporting).
Do I need RevenueCat for Veldo?
No. Rank, popularity, spend, and install-based verdicts still work. Revenue columns and revenue-aware verdicts light up when RevenueCat is connected.
Does Veldo support Android / Google Play?
Veldo is iOS App Store–focused. If Play metadata and rankings are core to your week, ASO.dev's dual-store story is a better primary suite.
Can I use both?
Yes. Example stack: ASO.dev or App Store Connect for listing ops; Veldo on the Mac for weekly keyword spend reviews; the free keyword field counter when packing the 100-character field.
What does Veldo cost?
$8.99 per month or $99 per year when live: flat tool pricing, not a percentage of ad spend. Join the waitlist for launch access and launch pricing.
Where does my data live?
With Veldo, spend, revenue, credentials, and the local database stay on your Mac. Optional community keyword pooling shares anonymous rank observations only; you can disable it.
